A Time for Crop Rotation

As you know, fall is around the corner. That means for us at our Market Garden, crop rotation time! We are slowly emptying out the farm beds of our summery, warm veggies like cucumbers and zucchinis and planting seeds for the return of cooler crops. Pumpkin Contest Is On!

pumpkin2Every year the residents at Pearson Centre Garden Club have a contest to see who can grow the biggest pumpkin! Last year, it was over 300 pounds!
Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin stews, soups, and baked goods still did not leave us short of pumpkin! Staff, volunteers, and residents each took some home, and it was a definite fall feature!

Garden Club Update at the George Pearson Residence!

Garden Club is a Therapeutic Garden for the residents at the George Pearson Centre. Raised planting beds filled with fruits, veggies, herbs and flowers are planted and cared for by the Pearson residents with the help of volunteers. Market Garden – Halfway Through our Summer Season Already!

222Today marked our ‘half-way’ point through the summer season at the Market Garden already!

As time passes, and weeks change from one to another, so does the harvest featured in our weekly CSA boxes.  Today we harvested lettuce, tomatoes, zucchinis, cucumbers, onions, leeks, fennel, and carrots amongst some other crops. Volunteers picked and arranged beautiful bouquet’s of pink, purple, orange and white dahlias to include in our boxes!
